HJF is seeking a Data Analyst III to provide analytic support The Military Health System Response to COVID-19 (MiHReC19) project through the Center for Health Services Research (CHSR) located at the Rockledge Office in Bethesda, MD. The Data Analyst will provide analytic support to epidemiologists, biostatisticians and scientists and ensure data quality and data integrity. The Military Health System Response to COVID-19 (MiHReC19) project will investigate the long-term effects of COVID-19 on the Military Health System (MHS). The project will use a comprehensive Health Systems approach in order to maximize the translatable, actionable knowledge generated from the lessons learned. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with the Military Health System Response to COVID-19 research team. They will pursue health services and health system research along a focused line of inquiry and produce manuscripts and other knowledge translation products.

US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a T3 Secred Clearance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts complex statistical analyses using large-scale military healthcare system databases, applying descriptive statistics, linear/logistic regression modeling, and longitudinal data analysis.
  • Designs and optimizes data processing workflows to improve efficiency and reproducibility in research projects.
  • Applies population health frameworks to analyze access to care, health outcomes, and value based care in the Military Healthcare System.
  • Leads the development and implementation of new statistical methodologies and analytic approaches for research studies.
  • Provides strategic guidance on data-driven research initiatives, contributing to study design and execution.
  • Ensures rigor in data quality control, validation, and processing techniques.
  • Manages and mergess complex military healthcare system datasets, while ensuring data security, integrity, and compliance with research protocols.
  • Performs data validation, cleaning, and transformation, ensuring datasets are research-ready.
  • Develops documentation and best practices for data governance and standardization.
  • Serves as a key data liaison between internal research teams and external partners, including military health institutions and academic partners.
  • Leads multi-institutional collaborations, ensuring alignment on data methodologies and research priorities.
  • Engages with stakeholders to translate complex data findings into actionable recommendations for policy and practice.
  • Mentors and trains junior analysts, research staff, and graduate students in data analysis techniques.
  • Collaborates with the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, Faculty Research Associate, and other staff to ensure study-related tasks are completed successfully.
  • Assists in drafting, editing, and proofing key research findings and collaborates with the project team on presentations, manuscripts, and grants related to project data.
  • Plays a key role in securing external funding and grant proposals, contributing statistical expertise and data-driven justifications for funding applications.
  • Co-authors research proposals, ensuring methodological rigor and statistical validity in grant applications.
  • Develops data-driven research initiatives that align with funding priorities and advance the organization's mission.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree Preferred
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced Statistical Analysis & Data Management - Expertise in descriptive statistics, regression modeling, longitudinal data analysis, and managing large healthcare system databases while ensuring data integrity and compliance.

  • Technical Proficiency - Proficient in SAS, Excel, and/or SQL for complex data processing, analysis, and reporting.

  • Research & Grant Development - Experience in grant writing, proposal development, manuscript preparation, and policy-relevant research in public health and health systems research.

  • Project Leadership & Multi-Institutional Collaboration - Ability to lead research initiatives, coordinate cross-institutional studies, and engage with federal agencies, academic partners, and stakeholders.

  • Quality Assurance & Problem-Solving - Skilled in data validation, cleaning, transformation, and workflow optimization to improve research efficiency and accuracy.

  • Mentorship & Team Collaboration - Strong ability to train and mentor junior analysts, graduate students, and research teams, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Scientific Communication & Knowledge Translation - Excellent writing and presentation skills, capable of translating complex data findings into actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a remote office environment.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800.00 - $97,452.56. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
