Position Information

New Hanover County is seeking a part-time Tax Associate to join the Tax Department. This role involves extensive interaction with property owners and the public, both in person and by phone. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with tact, courtesy, and empathy while assisting patrons, answering basic questions, and providing referrals as needed. Strong interpersonal skills, friendliness, and a positive attitude are essential.
Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:
- Provide excellent customer service to citizens on the phone and in person at our customer service desk.
- Create help tickets for citizen's tax-related questions.
- Perform quality assurance review of real property records to ensure accuracy.
- Under general supervision, measure and record physical property data of real property.
- Speak with property owners to review and verify property characteristics and ensuring data accuracy.
- Assist with research for mailing information for property owners. Retrieve and process incoming mail from USPS.
- Must exercise initiative and independent judgment in ensuring proper application of established policies and procedures.
- May be required to work outside, including times of inclement weather conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Hours:
Monday - Friday 10am - 2pm, with flexibility to adjust as needed to support departmental needs.
Employment Type:
Casual Part Time, 19 hours a week, not eligible for benefits
Salary Information: The
hiring range
for this position starts at
$20.00/hour.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous front-line customer service experience (e.g. retail, food service, or hospitality)
- Knowledge, skills, education, training, and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the functions of the role and successfully perform the essential duties.

Licenses/Certifications

- Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
