Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of only 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

The Infant Learning Laboratory studies how infants and young children learn language, learn the meanings of words, find the patterns in language and track the properties of speech. This position will assist in development, execution and evaluation of the language research performed in the laboratory by tracking babies' progress through experimental research tasks, code videos of experiments, data management and data analysis. This position will also recruit participants for research studies in the laboratory, be responsible for the training and supervision of students, make purchases for the laboratory, aid in grant management and budget planning, and assist the principal investigator in manuscript and grant preparation.


Responsibilities:
Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.

  • 50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 10% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 5% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 10% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 20% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related field


Qualifications:

At least one year of research experience in psychology or a related field, with human participants in an academic setting is required. Previous experience with oversight, coordination and/or management of a research laboratory or unit is required. Relevant undergraduate student experience will be considered.

Well-qualified candidates will have the following preferred experience:
- Experience working with infants, toddlers, and families in a research setting.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with experimental programs including E-Prime, MATLAB, Python, and WISP.
- Experience working with Tobii eye-tracking devices.
- Experience with recruitment of families for research participation.
- Experience supervising undergraduate research assistants.
- Experience managing grant budgets.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter.

Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.
