I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University School of Business (GWSB) is committed to academic excellence, innovative curricula, and the responsible management of organizations in a global environment. To support this mission, GWSB's Finance Department is seeking a skilled Senior Financial Analyst to join our team.
The Senior Financial Analyst plays a key role in GWSB's Finance team, performing complex analytical and administrative duties. This position leverages data analytics and trend analysis to drive decision-making, monitor budget performance, and support strategic financial planning.
The Senior Financial Analyst works closely with the Finance Director (FD) and collaborates with team members across departments within the school and university.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Assist in the preparation of multi-year budget projections and forecasts.
  • Perform detailed account analysis and reconciliation.
  • Track and model trends for both revenue and expenses.
  • Provide recommendations for resource allocation.


Reporting & Data Analysis

  • Generate financial data from enterprise systems.
  • Compile and maintain financial reports and dashboards.
  • Provide monthly reports to the FD and departments, explaining variances and recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Complete extensive reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including:

    • Budget reports for multiple departments
    • End-of-fiscal-year reporting
    • Tax surveys
    • Ad-hoc financial reports



Risk Mitigation & Best Practices

  • Research industry best practices, including financial benchmarks, policies, and statutory codes.
  • Identify gaps in business processes and procedures.
  • Assist in developing internal financial policies and procedures to enhance information flow and maintain accurate records.

Strategic Initiatives
  • Support the development of financial models for key strategic activities, including:

    • New program initiatives
    • Executive Education programs


Performs other related duties as assigned including providing cross team training and learning/performing backup tasks for finance team member when needed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic academic setting, contributing to the financial health and strategic success of GWSB.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and translate insights into actionable recommendations is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting is desired.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial challenges.
  • Commitment to continuous process improvement and efficiency.
  • Proficiency in financial systems, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Excel is desired.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to stakeholders.


Hiring Range $72,235.20 - $119,100.82
