Legal Assistant - Transactional/Bankruptcy

Seeking an experienced Legal Assistant with a minimum of three years of experience in transactional and bankruptcy law. The firm has a fast-paced and varied litigation practice, handling cases in Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. This position requires familiarity with federal and state court filing procedures, including electronic filings (ECF). The ideal candidate will be tech-savvy, a quick learner, and capable of managing a range of administrative duties to support attorneys.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce legal documents, correspondence, and reports from drafts or dictation.
  • Proofread documents for grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors.
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy files related to the position.
  • Effectively operate a personal computer to produce firm-related documents.
  • Learn and adapt to updated software versions and new tools (e.g., Practice Master, Worldox).
  • Knowledgeable in Virginia court filing procedures, including ECF filings.
  • Prepare and file legal documents in compliance with court requirements.
  • Organize and prioritize legal tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages, and maintain high customer service.
  • Schedule appointments and maintain attorney calendars.
  • Act as liaison between attorneys, clients, and other staff.
  • Arrange for services like court reporters, couriers, and special transportation.
  • Assist in the preparation of timesheets, and may review/edit bills.
  • Perform typing, filing, photocopying, and reception relief as needed.
  • Maintain records for bar dues, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits, and memberships.
  • Process payments received from clients according to established procedures.
  • Keep a Desk Procedures document for assigned attorneys, ensuring proper coverage in their absence.
  • Responsible for setting up and cleaning up conference rooms for client meetings.
  • Sort, date stamp, and scan incoming mail, discovery documents, pleadings, and other case-relevant materials into Worldox.
