NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and knowledgeable individual to serve as the Assistant Track and Field/Cross Country Coach. This position will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the track and field and cross-country programs within the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). The ideal candidate will have experience in coaching at the collegiate or high school level, demonstrate a commitment to student-athlete success both academically and athletically, and contribute to the overall development and success of the program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in Coaching & Training

    • Work closely with the Head Coach to plan and implement daily practices for both the track and field and cross-country teams.

    • Assist with training sessions, drills, and strategy development for various events (sprints, distance, field events, etc.) across both disciplines.

    • Provide individualized coaching for student-athletes to develop skills and improve performance.

  • Recruiting

    • Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of potential student-athletes for both the track and field and cross-country programs.

    • Attend recruiting events, meets, and competitions to scout talent and build relationships with high school coaches and prospective athletes.

    • Manage and utilize team social media accounts to promote the XC, Track and Field, and all NWACC programs.

  • Meet & Event Preparation

    • Aid in organizing and coordinating team travel for competitions, including logistics, scheduling, and preparation.

    • Assist with the organization of home meets, events, and other athletic functions.

  • Academic Support & Monitoring

    • Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring they are meeting NJCAA eligibility standards.

    • Provide guidance to student-athletes regarding time management, academic responsibilities, and personal development.

  • Team Development & Leadership

    • Help foster a positive and supportive team culture, emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

    • Assist in mentoring student-athletes, helping them develop both athletically and personally during their time at NWACC.

  • Compliance & Administration

    • Ensure compliance with NJCAA, NWACC, and relevant governing bodies' rules and regulations.

    • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, performance data, and recruiting efforts.

  • Other Duties

    • Assist with fundraising and alumni relations for the program.

    • Participate in department meetings and activities as required by the Athletic Director.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Rate of Pay $38,585 annualized

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel for competitions as required.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required (preferably in a related field such as Physical Education, Sports Management, or Kinesiology).

  • Previous coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level, or equivalent experience in track and field and/or cross-country.

  • NJCAA or NCAA experience is a plus.

Certifications (Preferred but not required):

  • CPR/First Aid certification.

  • Coaching certifications from USATF, USTFCCCA, or similar organizations
