About the Role

Gain real world experience as an Intern in Matson's Risk Management Department. The Intern rate of pay is $25/hour. This position requires the successful candidate to be in-office at our Oakland Corporate office at least 3 days per week.

What you'll do:

  • Work with Senior Risk Manager to streamline statement of values for property insurance and link lease agreements with insured locations.
  • Review binders and policies to validate premium payments.
  • Conduct annual insurance policy audit to verify all policies have been accurately issued.
  • Create and maintain training materials on claims system operations and claims handling processes.
  • Assist with collection of underwriting renewal data, scheduling meetings and special projects as assigned by the Director or other members of the Risk Management team.
  • Learn to review certificates and negotiate deficiencies with internal departments and external brokers and vendors.
  • Special projects and presentations.
  • Assist with building the Origami insurance certificate module.

You have these skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills.

And these qualifications:

  • Rising Junior or Senior in active pursuit of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Job training includes:

  • One-on-one training with our Director of Risk Management on insurance coverages.
  • Origami database review.
  • Vessel tours.
