Responsible for bridging performance improvement with evidence-based infection prevention and patient safety practices. This individual may serve in a dual role as the organization's Infection Control Officer and Patient Safety Officer, responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of health care acquired infections, education of employees about infection control and assisting with the development of policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards are met.
Essential Functions
-Manages and coordinates the hospital wide Infection Control Program.
-Identifies communicable disease cases to be reported to the appropriate health department.
-Develops, implements, and evaluates the organizational infection prevention program.
-Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
-Develops new programs based on needs analysis in accordance with local, state, and/or federal requirements.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Health Sciences required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred

Licenses and Credentials
- Registered Nurse preferred

- Certification in Infection Prevention and Control [CIC] required

- Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred

Experience
Three to Five years of experience applying infection prevention and epidemiology programs

One to Two years of Supervisory/Leadership experience in a healthcare system or hospital required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Clearly demonstrable strong knowledge in infection control and prevention.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong statistical methods and data analysis skills; report writing and presentation skills.
- Strong knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology principles, and risk factor assessment.
- Ability to work well collaboratively and independently.
