The unit of Loan Servicing & Collections within the Office of the Bursar is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Accountant - Advanced Professional. Responsibilities of this opportunity include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish and streamline strategies and procedures, while working with third-party servicers, for the servicing/collection of past due student accounts, write-off accounts, Federal Perkins student loans, and University funded student loans for the entire University including Commonwealth campuses, Penn State's College of Medicine, Penn State's Dickinson School of Law, and World Campus.
  • Perform the tuition write-off process, including but not limited to the analysis leading up to the write-off, resolving posting errors, and generating reports after the write-off has completed.
  • Prepare reports/analysis on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis for the University Bursar and Penn State leadership centered around the aging of student account receivables, and Federal Perkins and University funded loan programs.
  • Create efficiencies to improve productivity, recovery of receivables, and customer service within the Loan Servicing and Collections Team.
  • Manage and supervise the creation and updating of Business Process Guides within the Loan Servicing and Collections Team.

The successful candidate for this position must possess the following characteristics:

  • Excellent communication skills to address unique situations and concerns in daily interactions with various Penn State offices, outside agencies, parents, and students.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to plan, organize, delegate, and direct work objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and the ability to meet specific deadlines and demonstrate the ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree plus three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.

Knowledge of and compliance experience with Federal Regulations, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and privacy laws such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) preferred.

The ideal candidate will have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Microsoft Excel. Experience with student and business systems/software is highly desirable.

This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

Due to the financial and fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
