Position Summary
This is a professional position responsible for academic advising of high demand majors within Grady College, advising support of pre-majors, and administrative support of all Grady undergraduate services from admission through graduation. The position also provides outreach and counsel for prospective and current students in the Double Dawgs program. The position is also responsible for assisting with Freshman and Transfer Orientation. It is a permanent, full-time position in the College and reports to the Director of Undergraduate Services.
The position involves knowledge of Grady College degree programs; Double Dawgs programs within the College; academic and career opportunities; and UGA curriculum requirements as they relate to academic planning for pre-majors and majors and completion of Grady undergraduate degrees and Double Dawgs programs. Experience with UGA's DegreeWorks and Athena records systems is preferred.
The position involves outstanding written and oral communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, data management, and task and time management skills. It also entails a sophisticated sense of the dimensions of advising and student services and a respect for the importance of effective advising to student success in the field of journalism and mass communication.
The successful candidate will work collegially in a team environment with the undergraduate staff, departments, and faculty in support of the undergraduate learning mission at Grady
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Specific duties/capacities include:

* Ability to communicate requirements confidently and credibly to high-achieving students.
* Ability to build intellectual and professional relationships with students.
* Extensive administrative support of the Grady admissions process each Fall and Spring.
* Ability to develop effective informational messages and to use online advising tools.
* Responsibility for outreach to pre-majors and other students interested in the Double Dawgs Program, including frequent appointments, phone calls, and email correspondence with prospective students and families.
* Serve as the liaison between Grady departments and campus partners, providing information on the availability of courses and obtaining PODs for students in these programs.
* Serve as the liaison between Grady departments and the Office of International Education, providing information on the availability of courses and obtaining PODs for students in these programs.
* Assist with academic and other events as assigned by the Director, including Grady orientations, admissions information sessions, and convocation.
* Advise first year and transfer Intended Grady students during Summer Orientation (June, July, and early August) and Spring Semester Orientation (December and January), including scheduling and correspondence with students in cooperation with the Exploratory Center.
* Provide major or prospective student advising as needed during the long-term absence of another member of the Grady College advising staff.
* Market Grady Double Dawgs opportunities.
* Other duties as assigned by Director.
