JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Population Research Institute (PRI) welcomes applications for a Proposal and Award Generalist - Post Award. This position will be filled at the Advanced Professional level. The PRI is seeking a detailed-oriented, motivated individual to provide administrative and post-award support on sponsored research awards in a large volume, fast-paced, complex, detailed, and multifaceted environment. This position will report to the Research Project Manager of PRI.

Responsibilities: The duties of the Proposal and Award Generalist include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead, direct, and manage the post-award side of research administration for PRI which is composed of one or more employees
  • Proactively engage faculty and managers to provide recommendations and guidance to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of award management
  • Resolve issues and implement solutions; initiate process improvements to address systemic roadblocks
  • Contribute to the University research administration community, effectively communicate with other offices/departments (Office of Sponsored Programs, Research Accounting, Purchasing, etc.)
  • Mentor and/or train others in support of research administration objectives
  • Manage and oversee PRI's complex grant portfolio, including cost share
  • Understand and adhere to sponsor terms and conditions, in addition to Penn State's internal policies and procedures; develop and implement new internal processes and guidelines for award management
  • Work with other Colleges/Departments to process Supplemental Salary for PRI associates
  • Provide financial reports to PRI associates, advising on complex budget issues, projections, and spending.
  • Work with sponsors on prior approval requests (No-Cost Extensions, Budget Revisions, etc.) and submit financial and final reports in a timely manner.
  • Oversee our subawards; reviewing subaward request forms, invoices, closeouts, etc.
  • Ensure that PRI is compliant with Penn State and sponsor closeout requirements
  • Provide direction, training, and support to other post-award administration staff in other units under SSRI.

Education and Experience: This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The individual in this role will frequently use the following software, systems, and applications: Microsoft Office 365 apps and SAP Concur, as well as the following which are specific to Penn State: SIMS (Strategic Information Management System) and SIMBA (System for Integrated Management, Budgeting, and Accounting).

Graduation of the Penn State ACOR (Administrative Committee on Research) Certification and Education Series (ACES) or its equivalent is preferred.

Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills are critical, as is the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and think outside the box. NIH grant experience is highly preferred.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$56,200.00 - $81,500.00
