Summer Literacy Paraprofessional Aide - Make a Difference This Summer!

Are you an experienced educator looking for a seasonal opportunity to make a real impact in your community? Do you want to help ensure children stay on track academically and continue building essential literacy and social skills during the summer months? If so, this could be the perfect role for you!

The Salem YMCA is seeking Summer Literacy Paraprofessional Aides to support our five-week summer literacy program. In this role, you will play a vital part in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where children can thrive.


What You'll Do:

  • Provide educational support and supervision to children and youth in a structured learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers and staff to lead classroom management and address behavioral needs.
  • Apply child growth and development principles to foster positive relationships and encourage learning.
  • Ensure consistency in supervision and communication throughout the program day.
  • Help prevent summer learning loss, ensuring children are prepared to advance confidently into the next school year.


What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting (paraprofessional, teacher's aide, tutor, etc.).
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to support positive behavior.
  • Passion for literacy development and educational equity.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and create an inclusive, engaging learning environment.
  • A team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.


Program Details & Commitment:

  • Program Dates: July 7th - August 8th
  • Hours: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday
  • Training: Attendance at required training sessions prior to the program start (dates TBD).

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Previous experience working with children from diverse backgrounds in an educational or developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to support positive behavior.
  • Passion for literacy development and educational equity.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with staff and program participants.
