About this Position

Pinyon is seeking an experienced Landscape Architect with eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible landscape architecture experience. This position involves mentoring landscape design staff, overseeing project delivery for landscape architecture work, and supporting business development for landscape architecture services.

This position will lead the design and implementation of projects including parks, open spaces, trails, stream and floodplain restoration, and ecological restoration. Responsibilities include preparing landscape plans, conducting site assessments, providing construction oversight, and developing management plans. You will also collaborate with other technical teams within the company, such as NEPA/Planning, Biological, Sustainability and Resiliency, Cultural, and Engineering.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Technical Responsibilities:

    • Manage multi-disciplinary projects with a landscape architecture scope.
    • Design, permit, and mitigate wetland, riparian, and threatened/endangered species issues.
    • Lead schematic design, design development, and construction documents (demolition, grading, erosion control, landscape plans).
    • Prepare project cost estimates, specifications, and manage public engagement strategies.
    • Create graphics, models, renderings, and visualizations to support projects.
    • Produce project reports, memorandums, and other required documentation.
    • Conduct technical reviews and improve QAQC procedures.


  • Business Development:

    • Cultivate and maintain positive external client relationships to grow landscape architecture services.
    • Collaborate with the Technical Group Manager to develop effective marketing strategies landscape architecture services.
    • Collaborate with market managers to combine Pinyon's core and emerging services into multi-disciplinary client solutions.
    • Provide landscape technical approaches, scopes, and fees for proposals.
    • Develop landscape technical content for marketing materials.
    • Support technical networking and business development across various markets (Federal, Utility, State/Local, Energy, Transportation).




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture; Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of professional Landscape Architecture experience.
  • Registered Landscape Architect in Colorado (or ability to obtain certification within 4 months of hire). Registration in other Rocky Mountain West states is a plus.
  • Expert proficiency with AutoCad and developing construction document plans and details.
  • Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-up, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and graphic communication skills.
  • Knowledge of native plants and use in landscape, wetland and stream restoration projects in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain west.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements for myriad environmental regulations, including but not limited to the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Applied knowledge of natural resources master planning and design.
  • Ability to proactively identify potential solutions or approaches in a dynamic, fast-paced workplace.
