EDUCATION SPECIALIST PERIOP

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Education Specialist of Periop Central Sterile Processing will create, maintain, and administer Sterile Processing Competencies. Ensures that the Sterile Processing (CSP) technicians at Montefiore are professionally trained and operating within the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to HSPA, AORN, the Joint Commission, FDA, CDC, OSHA, AAMI, and infection control.

The SPD Education Specialist actualizes the vision, mission, values, and balanced scorecard performance measures for Montefiore Medical Center.

The SPD Education Specialist participates in performance improvement/research activities; maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills. The role demonstrates core and unit specific competencies based on the patient population served.

This role requires managing the sterile processing technicians on each campus to meet the objectives of providing educational services to all the clinical associates and continued assessment of learning needs to maintain competence and enhance performance/professional development. This position includes travel to alternate sites as needed.

This role will ensure the completeness of the on-boarding process of clinical associates and clinical leaders of the SPD department across MMC.

Has cross campus responsibility, authority, and accountability for the organization and management of the sterile processing department educational programs. Demonstrates advanced leadership, managerial, clinical, and educative abilities and acts as liaison/consultant to other hospital departments.

SCHEDULE:8 AM-4:30 PM. Monday-Friday

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

• Associate degree in related field required.
• Candidates must have comprehensive knowledge of SPD with a minimum of three (3) years of SPD experience.
• Minimum of 3 years management experience required.
• Holds and maintains the following credentials administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization: Certified Registered Central Service Technician, (CRCST) and Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
• Critical thinking and analytic skills necessary for problem solving and clinical decision-making.
• Computer literacy.
