About the Job

Summary
This is a position for a laboratory manager in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics. The successful applicant is expected to work closely with the PI to oversee laboratory projects and personnel, conduct their own projects, and assist others.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

60% Research
Design, conduct, analyze experiments, and report findings to the PI or research team. Lead projects or contribute to larger team projects.

30% Laboratory Management
Oversee general laboratory organization including ordering, equipment management, and regulatory protocol adherence.

10% Teach students and laboratory personnel.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be fully documented in application materials

Required Qualifications
BS in biochemistry, physiology, or related biological field plus at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least nine years. Expertise in mouse genetics and husbandry and broad experience with basic biochemical and molecular laboratory techniques. Excellent communication or organization skills. Must be able to contribute to a positive, collaborative, and stimulating working environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree. Experience with project oversight, training students, laboratory or people management, troubleshooting, regulatory protocols, and ordering lab supplies.

About the Department

The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphasis on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $65,000 - $75,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
