Project Engineer - Position and Responsibilities

As an on-site Project Engineer (PE) with Middough, you will be responsible as our client's agent for the overall development and execution of client projects including project budgets, schedules, quality, safety, and stakeholder satisfaction. This position requires being on-site at the client facility in Bedford Park, IL. The PE will manage the organization, control, integration, and completion of a design project or the design portion of a design/construct project to meet goals/objectives in accordance with the client's processes/procedures/contract, scope, budget, and schedule. The PE will possess sufficient technical knowledge and awareness of design details to recognize technical problems in assigned disciplines and to initiate appropriate corrective actions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate the technical and management interface on assigned projects.
  • Develop and monitor project engineering schedules, budgets, and forecasts including Company work process tools.
  • Conduct meetings, develop scopes, generate project FEL packages and provide feedback.
  • Help manage the request for proposal process for the assigned plant capital projects.
  • Review project/engineering deliverables for compliance with accepted engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract specifications.
  • Designate responsibilities for phases of a project and establishes scope of authority to the project team.
  • Develop and maintain monthly project status reports and execute engineering change authorizations as required.
  • Use the client gated project development steps to work on projects from the beginning or take over projects already started.
  • Conduct walk-downs in the field for the assigned projects.
  • Participate in all project meetings to include safety and forecasting.



Education, Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  • 2 - 6 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer or Project Engineer.
  • Background in chemical or oil & gas industries preferred.
  • Experience coordinating and working with equipment vendors and construction contractors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients and all levels within the Company around professionalism, trust, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and be organized for effective project planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • May require occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites.
  • This position requires the candidate/employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence.
