We are seeking a Sr. Data Scientist, Applied Research to join our growing Product Team, reporting to the Director of Product, Data and Insights. This role will play a critical part in ensuring that our products are deeply informed by both user research and data-driven insights. The ideal candidate will be an expert in conducting user research-both qualitative and quantitative-while applying rigorous methodologies, frameworks, and analysis techniques to ensure accuracy and eliminate bias.

In addition to user research, this role requires strong analytical skills to work with complex datasets, apply statistical methods, and interpret insights that inform product and business opportunities. This individual will collaborate closely with product team members and the strategy and growth teams, with a strong partnership alongside the Director of Product, Data and Insights, to organize, analyze, and activate data to deliver actionable opportunities for innovation.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




  1. User Research:

    • Design, plan, and execute qualitative and quantitative user research studies to uncover educator needs, behaviors, and pain points.
    • Design and execute efficacy studies to measure the impact of products on teaching practices, learning outcomes, and user satisfaction.
    • Utilize appropriate research frameworks and methodologies, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, ethnographic studies, and other techniques.
    • Identify and mitigate biases in research design, ensuring reliable and actionable outcomes.
    • Synthesize research findings into clear insights, actionable recommendations, and opportunities for product improvement.






  1. Data Analysis & Insights:



  • Conduct technical data analysis using statistical tools and frameworks (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python, R, or similar).
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities that drive product innovation and optimization.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Product, Data and Insights to develop dashboards, reports, and tools for tracking key product and user metrics.
  • Interpret findings and present insights in a way that is clear, actionable, and accessible to cross-functional teams.



  1. Collaboration & Communication:

    • Partner closely with the Product Team, Strategy & Growth Team, and the Director of Product, Data and Insights to ensure research and data are integrated into product and business decisions.
    • Effectively communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to a variety of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
    • Serve as an advocate for educators, ensuring user-centric decisions are rooted in robust research and data-driven insights.






  1. Continuous Improvement:



  • Stay up to date with research and analytical frameworks, tools, and best practices to continuously improve the quality of insights.
  • Help establish and refine user research processes, tools, and data reporting systems for scalability and consistency.



QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS



  • 5+ years of experience in user research, data analysis, or a similar role.
  • Experience in EdTech and/or early childhood education strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Experience designing and executing user research studies (e.g., surveys, interviews, usability testing, efficacy studies) with a focus on removing bias and ensuring validity.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, data manipulation, and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or similar platforms).
  • Exceptional ability to analyze complex data, draw insights, and clearly communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of data visualization and storytelling techniques.
  • Familiarity with product development processes and the ability to work in Agile teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for education technology and improving the experiences of educators and learners.
