Your Role on Our Team:

As the Group Manager of Data Engineering, you will lead a dynamic team of around 15 data engineers, driving the execution of critical data initiatives that power our organization's analytics and decision-making processes. Your focus will be on delivering high-quality data solutions using Azure, Databricks, and Spark technologies. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring your team's projects align with broader organizational goals. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, project management skills, and leadership acumen to foster innovation, drive efficiency, and develop talent within your team. Your success will be measured by your ability to deliver projects on time, manage stakeholders effectively, and contribute to the overall data strategy of the organization.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

* Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of 15 data engineers, balancing workload between on-shore and off-shore resources to maximize efficiency and output. Foster a culture of ownership, speed, and candid communication.

* Project Execution: Drive the execution of data engineering projects, ensuring 80% focus on delivery while contributing 20% to strategic planning and innovation. Ensure projects meet quality standards and are delivered on time.

* Technical Oversight: Oversee the development and maintenance of data pipelines, ETL processes, and data infrastructure using Azure, Databricks, and Spark technologies. Ensure scalability and performance.

* Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with BI, Data Science, and Product teams, participating in sprint reviews and ensuring data engineering deliverables meet cross-functional needs. Communicate effectively with stakeholders.

* Stakeholder Management: Manage stakeholder relationships, communicating project status, challenges, and successes effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ensure stakeholder satisfaction and alignment with organizational goals.

* Project Management: Implement and maintain best practices in project management, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality data solutions. Use tools like Azure DevOps to streamline workflows.

* Innovation and Efficiency: Foster a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging the exploration and adoption of new technologies and methodologies in data engineering. Drive efficiency through automation and process improvements.

* Talent Development: Develop and mentor team members, identifying growth opportunities and building a high-performing, engaged data engineering team. Foster a culture of continuous learning.

* Data Architecture Alignment: Work closely with the team's data architect to ensure alignment between data engineering initiatives and the overall data architecture strategy. Support strategic data planning.

* Data Strategy Contribution: Contribute to the organization's data strategy, helping to shape the long-term vision for data utilization and management. Ensure data engineering initiatives support broader organizational goals.

The TOOLS you'll bring with you:

* Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

* Leadership Experience: 8+ years of experience in data engineering or related fields, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing teams of 10+ members.

* Technical Expertise: Strong expertise in Azure cloud services, Databricks, and Apache Spark, with hands-on experience in building and optimizing data pipelines.

* Project Management Skills: Proven track record in managing complex data projects, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality results in an agile environment.

* Stakeholder Communication: Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

* Talent Development Skills: Experience in talent development and team leadership, with a focus on mentoring and growing engineering capabilities.

* Data Modeling Knowledge: Proficiency in data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehouse concepts.

* Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with agile methodologies and experience in sprint planning and review processes.

* Problem Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about data challenges and opportunities.

* Cultural Alignment: A mindset that aligns with our company culture of ownership, speed and agility, and candid communication.

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:

* Data Governance Tools: Experience with data governance tools and practices, particularly in cloud environments like Azure Purview or Databricks Unity Catalog.

* Machine Learning Operations: Knowledge of machine learning operations (MLOps) and how data engineering supports advanced analytics initiatives.

* Data Visualization Tools: Familiarity with data visualization tools to support effective communication of data insights.

* Data Security and Compliance: Understanding of data security and compliance requirements in cloud-based data environments.

* Open-Source Technology: Experience with open-source data technologies and community involvement in data engineering forums or projects.
