CNA Primary Instructor

The primary instructor shall be responsible for providing instruction and conducting student evaluations within Stark State Colleges CNA Training and Competency Evaluation Program (TCEP) as required by rule 3701-18-12 of the Administrative Code. This position will also be responsible for supervising instruction by supplemental instructors working in the program.



Provide instruction and perform skills testing, required by a TCEP
* Comply with ORC 370-18-09 for state standards and curriculum requirements
* Comply with ORC 370-18-09 regarding nursing license and approved Train the Trainer (TTT) program completion.
* Works closely with the program coordinator (PC) and supplemental instructor of CNA program
* Assists PC to maintain curriculum updates (including power points, skill sheets/test off forms, any documents to be submitted to the state
* Provides classroom instruction, skills demonstration, and clinical experiences including evaluations and skill testing.
* Attends yearly in-services to remain up to date on changes within the state requirements



  • Must be actively licensed as registered nurse without restriction within the state of Ohio.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of registered nursing experience ( one year providing long-term care).
  • Must have experience in evaluating, in a long-term care setting, the clinical skills of individuals providing care for the elderly or chronically ill.
  • Must be able to provide documentation for one of the following:
    • Successfully completed an approved TTT program; or
    • One year experience in teaching adults and possesses the training manual required of rule 3701-18-21 of the Administrative Code from an approved TTT program; or
  • Within the previous three years, provided at least one year of direct supervision of nurse aides in a long-term care facility as a registered nurse.
  • Served as a primary instructor of at least one TCEP or faculty member of at least one TTT program within the previous twenty-four consecutive months


Strong communication (written & oral), interpersonal, and team-building skills.
- Ability to understand and integrate educational technology into the department including proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, digital tools and multimedia tools to create instructional materials. Microsoft Office programs to include: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
