About the Opportunity PBS North Carolina is seeking a motivated and creative student intern to assist a producer in the development of broadcast and social media content for the weekly travel series North Carolina Weekend and the public affairs series Black Issues Forum. This is an excellent opportunity for a student with a passion for storytelling, an enthusiasm for North Carolina culture and history, and an interest in studying public policy and Black communities. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with the producer(s) on content development for broadcast and social media platforms. Research on program topics Write and copyedit program content. Contribute ideas for program content Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and organizing production tasks. Support social media efforts, i.e. create content for posts Provide support during in-person production shoots. Assist with basic video editing or review footage if skilled or interested in editing. Perform other administrative and creative duties as assigned.
This position is a hybrid work arrangement and will work at least 2 day per week at the Bryan Center in Research Triangle Park, NC. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Required Competencies *Recent college graduate from an accredited college or university (student must have graduated Spring 2024 or after) OR *Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university AND *Be a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 semester hours) OR *Be a graduate student (9 semester hours)
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills * Strong written and oral communication skills. * Demonstrated interest in program subject matter; * Creativity, courtesy, and a positive attitude. * Preferred: Basic knowledge or skills in video editing and proficiency in posting to social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube, or a strong interest in developing those skills. * Highly organized and reliable with the ability to manage multiple tasks. * Available to work in-person; some remote work may be allowed. * Coursework or experience in journalism, communications, history, government, public policy, or a related field. Special Physical / Mental Requirements * The position requires some in-person work, with flexibility for remote tasks as appropriate. *The intern will collaborate with a creative and passionate team committed to producing high-quality and impactful content.
