About the Role

The Senior Finance & Business Analyst - Marine Operations position is responsible for supporting the Vessel Operations and Engineering Finance & Accounting Manager with all financial management functions related to the New Vessel Construction project, LNG conversion projects, other Vessel Operations & Engineering CER capital projects, Vessel Operating Expense and Vessel Overhead accounts, including Maintenance & Repair, vessel reactivation/deactivation, inactive and H&M claims. Assist with overseeing and ensuring all Vessel Operations & Engineering Dept financial and accounting related work complies with GAAP, SOX rules / controls and corporate financial policies and procedures.

What you'll do:

Administrative & Transactional Accounting Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial analysis, research, and reporting support to various managers within the Vessel Operations & Engineering Dept, including the New Build and Dry Dock project teams and ensure timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions.
  • Provide administrative and business process support to various managers within the Vessel Operations & Engineering Dept, including the New Build and Dry Dock project teams.
  • Assist with coding and submission of various invoices related to projects, operations, and G&A expenses.
  • Research aged payables and open purchase orders to ensure accruals are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Review weekly NSE open purchase order (PO) reports to ensure accurate coding, issued status and accruals.
  • Ensure all Vessel Operations & Engineering Dept financial and accounting related work complies with GAAP, SOX rules / controls and corporate financial policies and procedures.
  • Assist with NSE PO SOX internal and external audits.
  • Assist with Vessel Operations & Engineering Dept budgeting process.
  • Assist with Vessel Operations & Engineering Dept budget variance research and analysis.
  • Collaborate with various departments to streamline and improve Vessel Operations & Engineering Dept administrative and business processes.
  • Collaborate with Insurance / Risk Dept, Vessel Operations & Engineering, Accounting and Marine Personnel to capture, track and report costs related to Hull & Machinery (H&M) and Personal Injury/Illness (P&I) claims.
  • Other ad hoc Marine Ops administrative job responsibilities as required.

Financial Analysis, Research & Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Conduct General Ledger (GL) analysis of financial transactions related to various Vessel Expense accounts and Vessel Operations / Engineering Projects, including capital, dry dock, new build, M&R, vessel operating expense, etc.
  • Identify and resolve invoicing issues, accounting discrepancies, and other financial-related problems.
  • Identify items requiring GL reclassification and submit journal requests to the Phoenix Accounting Dept accordingly.
  • Prepare and provide financial reporting and financial analysis as requested by project and executive management.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with CER rules, SOX requirements and GAAP.
  • Other ad hoc Marine Ops finance and accounting job responsibilities as required.

You have these skills:

  • Excellent customer service, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; interacts effectively with various levels of management.
  • Strong organizational skills and aptitude for attention to detail.

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least two (2) to three (3) years of work experience involving general accounting practices, budgeting, and/or financial analysis.
  • Extensive computer skills, including Excel, PowerBI, ABS Nautical Systems (NSE) and Workday.
  • Experience working with ERP and purchasing systems.

You're also great at:

  • Ability to create and analyze complex Excel workbooks to support job functions outlined above.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of an integrated operating team.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadline requirements.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Maritime / Shipping Industry work experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of the transportation and shipping industry a plus.
  • Availability to work outside normal business hours, including nights and weekends as required.

The annual salary range is posted for this position in California is $86,800 - $118.240. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
