About the Job

Position Overview:
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a DevOps Engineer with strong security and development background to support a secure centralized Secrets Management System, implement security best practices, manage sensitive information, and work with multi-functional teams to drive adoptions. This role seeks an individual who will help expand Hashicorp Vault's functionality, maximizing its security potential for IT Teams, and make a significant impact on the University of Minnesota's security posture.

Key Responsibilities:
* Work with the team, Product Owner, and Product Manager to drive strategy for secure secrets management such as API tokens, passwords, certificates, etc for the entire organization.
* Collaborate with InfoSec (UIS), Identity & Access Management (IAM), Cloud, and other teams to ensure seamless integration of Vault with existing IT infrastructure and applications.
* Develop and maintain automation scripts using tools like Terraform, Go, and JavaScript to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
* Monitor Vault's performance and troubleshoot various incidents to ensure security and high availability.
* Collaborate with various teams to onboard new applications and provide assistance and mentorship in secure coding practices.
* Mentor less-experienced engineers by providing assistance with roadblocks, design decisions, and coding practices.
* Create documentation, guidelines, best practices, and deliver workshops to teams to drive adoption of secrets management.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least four years of relevant experience, OR master's degree plus at least two years of relevant experience OR a comparable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Solid understanding of security principles and secrets management best practices.
  • Strong software development skills and demonstrated experience building secure software solutions.
  • Experience with secrets management solutions such as HashiCorp Vault, Azure Key Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, etc.
  • Experience working with monitoring and SIEM tools (Splunk).
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages such as Bash, Python, JavaScript, Go, etc.
  • Experience working with various DevOps tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Github, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Familiarity with OS (Linux, Windows) system administration, database (Oracle, mySQL), networking, firewalls, cloud services (Azure, AWS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications for HashiCorp Vault, Azure, or AWS.
  • Experience architecting and implementing a Secrets Management or PAM solution.
  • Experience with automation tools and practices.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to Secrets Management, Cryptography, Tokenization, PKI and digital certificates.
  • Experience providing mentorship and career development opportunities to team members.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $107,000 - $125,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
