Job Overview

The Director, Innovation drives the organization's efforts to develop and execute transformative strategies that deliver profitable growth, enhance the customer experience, and position the company for long-term success. Reporting to the SVP of Strategy, they lead cross-functional collaboration to design trajectory-changing strategies and execution plans that ensure value is captured. In addition to spearheading major innovation initiatives, this role fosters a culture of innovation by managing a pipeline of employee-sourced ideas and organizing platforms, such as pitch competitions, to surface and greenlight impactful concepts.

What You Will Do

Strategic Innovation Leadership:

• Coordinate with the strategy team and key stakeholders to develop transformative strategies that drive company growth and enhance competitive positioning.
• Build execution plans for strategic initiatives to ensure value realization and alignment with company objectives.
• Identify and prioritize opportunities that align with long-term business goals.

Pipeline Management:

• Source and manage a pipeline of smaller, innovative ideas from internal colleagues to drive growth and improve the customer experience.
• Assess and prioritize ideas based on potential impact, feasibility, and alignment with strategic objectives.

Innovation Program Development:

• Design and execute innovation days, including pitch competitions, to showcase internal talent and provide a platform for new ideas.
• Partner with executive leadership to review and greenlight high-potential initiatives generated during innovation programs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Act as a connector across teams to ensure alignment and collaboration on innovation strategies and initiatives.
• Engage with leaders across the organization to gather insights, identify opportunities, and foster a culture of innovation.

Team Leadership:

• Manage and mentor a team of two direct reports, ensuring their professional growth and alignment with innovation objectives.
• Delegate tasks effectively, provide clear guidance, and hold the team accountable for delivering results.

Value Realization & Measurement:

• Develop metrics and frameworks to track the success of innovation initiatives and ensure they deliver measurable results.
• Provide regular updates to the SVP and senior leadership on progress, outcomes, and lessons learned.
• In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Cross-Functional Team Management: Experience managing cross-functional teams and driving alignment across diverse stakeholders.

Strategic Thinking and Problem Solving: Exceptional ability to identify and execute high-impact opportunities through strategic thinking and problem-solving.

Leadership and Mentoring: Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring direct reports to ensure professional growth and alignment with objectives.

Effective Communication and Storytelling: Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences and inspire action.

Innovation Framework Development: Proficiency in developing frameworks and tools to assess and prioritize ideas and initiatives.

Cultural Leadership: Ability to inspire and foster a culture of innovation within the organization, driving continuous improvement.

Execution and Value Realization: Expertise in developing and implementing execution plans to capture value and track progress toward business objectives.

Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to engage with and influence senior leadership and key stakeholders across the organization.

Who You Are

• Dedicated to fulfilling ideals of diversity, inclusion, and respect that Macy's aspires to achieve every day in every way.
• Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. MBA preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in innovation, strategy, or a related field, with a proven track record of leading transformative initiatives.
• Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
• Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
