Operational Risk Analyst

Description

This position is responsible for testing processes, assessing controls, and analyzing risks within all Operational areas of the Enterprise. In addition they will be responsible for identifying process improvements, training issues and offering recommendations based on their test findings.



  1. Oversee and/or execute risk consultation activities including the evaluation of risks associated with new, modified, and existing operational activities. Ensure that mechanisms are in place to either prevent or detect risks associated with those activities. Provide recommendations and/or comprehensive reports recommending steps that should be taken to improve to improve the control environment.
  2. Help develop and/or execute second line of defense testing programs and a schedule to perform those tests. Test programs or independently execute test programs to ensure policy, procedure and controls are functioning and mitigating risks as Upper Management expects. Evaluate adequacy of controls and ensure results of the review are clearly documented. Escalate perceived areas of heightened risk to appropriate Senior Management as warranted.
  3. Ensure test activities are completed in a timely manner and results are clearly documented and reported. Ensure written documents are accurate, concise, formatted professionally, and grammatically correct. Help develop and/or oversee development of reports to Senior Management. Communicate reported items clearly and effectively both in meetings and in writing.


Required Skills



  • Bachelor's degree required; 3+ years of commensurate experience could be considered in lieu of degree
  • A very clear understanding of basic audit standards, procedures, and techniques required to perform operational audits
  • Knowledge of Retail Bank operations and/or Lending operations
  • Healthy skepticism of policy compliance
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify irregularities
  • Excellent analytical skills and independent thinking
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of back office banking processes (e.g. trust operations, account openings, maintenance, item processing; reconciliation; wires; ACH processing; statement mailings; CD openings; maintenance, closings; NSF and overdraft processing; customer fee assessments; dormant account review; loan origination; closings; required disclosure; payment processing; and collection process; etc)

Education
Bachelors of Accounting (preferred)
Experience
3 years: Auditing, QC or testing. (preferred)
