Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Bronco One Stop is a centralized space for students to access standard student services to strengthen their ability to navigate Fayetteville State University. Bronco One Stop aims to enhance the student experience with the application process, academic records, financial aid, making payments, speaking with an advisor to register for classes, gaining assistance with degree planning, receiving academic support, and navigating university resources.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

Bronco One Stop aims to enhance the student experience with the application process, academic records, financial aid, making payments, speaking with an advisor to register for classes, gaining assistance with degree planning, receiving academic support, and navigating university resources.

Description of Work Continued:
Advising:
Provides individual academic advising to Fayetteville State University students to further retention and graduation efforts.
- Provide quality cross-curricular academic advising to students following NACADA Core Values of advising.
- Provide individual academic advising services to new, continuing, and transfer students assisting them with enrollment choices including creating and updating academic plans.
- Support students in a one-on-one and small group environments to assist with educational planning, goal setting, career exploration, selection of a major, and course selection.
- Proactively encourage students to think critically, seek out resources, and develop action steps (including appropriate policies).
- Review transcripts from former institutions and evaluate the course equivalencies for the University College core curriculum (basic entry level courses comprising 45 semester hours).
- Monitor assigned student programs of study and academic progress, monitor/address early alert flags and make notes in student success platform.
- Monitor assigned student progress and intervene as needed with students in academic difficulty, referring students to university resources as needed (tutoring, faculty, student services, etc.).
- Monitor assigned students' progress toward proficiency in core student learning outcomes.
- Appropriately respond to diverse student populations inquiries (first-time, transfer student, military affiliated, adult learners, veterans, online, and student on academic probation).
- Assist students in becoming familiar with the registration process and the Self-Service Banner database, and other student success platforms (i.e., Degree Works, EAB, Canvas, Upswing, etc.).
- Provide guidance and advice for students experiencing academic difficulty and advise on issues.
- Ensure students on academic probation has a student academic plan.
- Assist students with understanding and following a pathway from declaration of major through graduation.
- Assist students with course registration during the academic semesters.
- Develop and conducts workshops to support college navigation.
- Serve as a backup in the Bronco One Stop central services during peak times.
- Teach University Studies (UNIV) courses, as needed.
Advising Records: Monitor and maintain advising records through the university portals and other software systems ( EAB, Self-Serve Banner, DegreeWorks, Canvas, etc.). Monitor assigned student progress and intervene as needed with students in academic difficulty, referring students to university resources as needed.
Professional Development: Actively seek professional development opportunities to maintain and improve knowledge and expertise in advising, diversity, and technology. Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops to increase knowledge of retention evidence-based strategies and technology to support student success. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on special populations to include adult learners, veterans, online, military-affiliated, and students on academic probation.

Customer Services:Respond to inquiries from students with care and quality services via phone, email and in person. Serve students through virtual advising, walk-in advising, workshops and other programming methods that best meet the needs of students. Ability to work occasionally after 5:00pm and on weekends (especially during peak times).

Other Duties/Assignments:Participate in special programs such as new student orientation, open house majors fair, etc. Serves on committees as appropriate and as appointed by supervisor.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree required. Prefer a degree in social sciences, counseling or related fields. A minimum of two years of advising, recruitment, counseling, coaching or tutoring experience. Two years of proven experience working with adult learners preferred.

Must be able to relate to low-income/potential first generation students; ability to follow directions to implement evidence-based program; excellent organizational skills to document services accurately and meet deadlines; effective interpersonal and oral communication skills; and an interest in working with adult learners.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience understanding of the developmental needs of college students; 3-5 years' experience advising first-year students, particularly exploratory/undecided students; 1-2 years' experience in advising and programming for special populations; and proficiency with EAB Navigate student success management system, Ellucian Banner Student, Canvas Learning Management System and Degree Works degree auditing system.
