Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire an Applications System Engineer reporting to the Manager of Application Services.

This role will be a key resource on IT projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement solutions, perform application upgrades, and troubleshoot issues. In addition, you'll be responsible for evaluating, troubleshooting, and supporting various business process solutions, constantly seeking opportunities to optimize performance and recommend improvements.

This position will be resident in our Philadelphia office with a hybrid working schedule.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert for multiple business solutions used by Finance, Knowledge Management, and various practice groups at the firm. This emphasizes your legal industry understanding.

  • Support Software & Systems: Configure, maintain, enhance, and support legal-specific software packages, internally developed legal applications, and web services used for legal processes.

  • Manage Software Updates: Apply patches, customizations, and new features to legal software packages, ensuring compliance with legal industry standards.

  • Maintain Applications Uptime: Maintain the day-to-day operations of various legal applications, ensuring smooth functioning for critical legal processes.

  • Design Technology Environments: Design and build new legal application environments based on Vendor specifications and Firm requirements, considering legal-specific needs.

  • Document, Test & Fix Applications: Document and perform tests for supported legal applications, troubleshoot and fix problems, and assist with product launches and upgrades specific to the legal industry.

  • Support Legal Professionals: Provide technical support and troubleshoot problems related to legal applications for attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals.

  • Technical Documentation & Best Practices: Write clear and concise technical documentation specific to legal applications, adhering to best practices regarding version control and testing.

  • Manage Software Lifecycle: Perform software upgrades and track software licensing for legal applications, ensuring compliance with legal industry regulations.

  • Legal Tech Vendor Management: Assist with managing vendor relationships for legal technology solutions, including scoping application services project tasks specific to legal needs and defining/reviewing deliverables related to legal processes.

  • Maintain Data Security & Privacy: Implement and maintain data security measures to safeguard sensitive legal information, ensuring compliance with firm data privacy policies and regulations.

Experience and qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited university.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in application systems engineering or a relevant field.

  • Database Management: 3+ years of experience with SQL.

  • Web Services: 3+ years of experience working with applications that use Microsoft IIS web services.

  • Experience supporting applications hosted both on-prem and cloud-based.

  • A strong understanding of enterprise applications and architectures, including experience with integration, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Experience with providing user-focused technical support, demonstrating strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience supporting COTS software packages.

  • Strong problem-solving; analytical skills as well as project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with system administration and configuration management.

  • Experience with troubleshooting and performance monitoring.

  • Experience with scripting and automation; cloud computing platforms and managing software packages deployed in the cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Experience with Azure, ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, Tempo, Microsoft 365 Office Products, SharePoint etc.
