Primary Purpose of Department
The mission of the Office of Assessment and Accreditation is to supports the assessment, planning, accreditation and professional development needs of the University community and higher education communities around the state.
This Office has four functional areas:

  • Assist academic and administrative departments in planning, improving key processes and assessing performance;
  • Provide support to decision makers for translating planning, outcomes, and survey analyses into strategic plans.
  • Oversee and monitor the implementation, evaluation, and management of divisional effectiveness activities and institutional accreditation compliance.
  • Support assessment activities and promote the use of results for quality enhancement.

Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Assessment has primary responsibility to provide leadership and direction in the design, coordination and maintenance of effective student learning outcomes assessment activities and continued improvement in student learning. The requested position will support all stages of the outcomes assessment process and will support the participation of multiple stakeholders in the process for the purposes of student success and regional accreditation compliance. In addition, this position will provide educational opportunities about best practices in student learning outcomes assessment and alignment with curricular design and instructional practices and will participate in classroom or course research with faculty and staff concerning the alignment of outcomes and assessment with curricular design and instructional strategies.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Director of Assessment will provide leadership and training to instructional and non-instructional units in the development, coordination and maintenance of effective student learning outcomes assessment activities and continued improvement in student learning. The position will utilize the triangulation of data method to analyze learning outcomes, will develop methods to assess new teaching strategies and assigned classroom activities, will organize the administration of external assessments, and will facilitate the communication of continuous improvement to multiple stakeholders, including SACSCOC.
Minimum Education/Experience
A master's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Also required is a minimum of three years of full-time experience at an institution of higher education leading and facilitating program or general education learning outcomes assessment and preparing documentation for accreditation.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A doctorate is preferred


Experience:

  • Building literacy about best practices in higher education learning outcomes assessment and the use of results for learning improvement.
  • Collaborating with instructional and non-instructional units such as CTL, IR, and Undergraduate Education, etc. on course and/or classroom improvement efforts.
  • Leading and engaging teams, task forces, or committees
  • Organizing and compiling accreditation documents to ensure compliance with requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the value and importance of sound assessment practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with instructional and non-instructional units on best practices in assessment and the use of results for learning improvement and decision making
  • Ability to use descriptive statistics and inferential statistics
  • Ability to analyze and transform data into formats that are consumable and usable for multiple audiences
  • Ability to communicate, both written and orally, to practitioners in the assessment field external to the institution
  • Some familiarity with predictive modeling or data mining
