Job Purpose:

Developing and executing product and business strategy in a world of rapid technological and social change requires a highly capable, highly knowledgeable, and highly engaged team. American Honda's Sustainability & Business Development (SBD) business unit (BU) is tasked with navigating the business and technology application path for Honda's future renewable energy, resource circulation and innovative business products and services. Based on the Triple Zero Concept (2050), we will realize a society in North America where all customers can enjoy freedom of mobility, worry-free of any environmental impact through the principles of a carbon free and circular economy. The team will focus on building and sustaining Honda's core brand values and enhancing brand image and competitiveness in the marketplace by innovating, incubating, selecting, developing, applying, and operating new businesses, features, products, and services with responsibility for their profitability, competitiveness, and customer satisfaction for Honda in North America.

The Circular Solutions division is focused on establishing new sources of revenue and profit through the pursuit of new business opportunities including and beyond our core auto business. By focusing on innovative business models while creating new partnerships and alliances our aim is to add value to our customers throughout the lifecycle of Honda vehicles included at the end of life. The Lifecycle Business Development unit is specifically focused on creating additional value around used Honda vehicles. Our mission is to identify pain points or market inefficiencies in the used car market that American Honda Motor as an automotive OEM can uniquely address with new business models.

The Vehicle Lifecycle Senior Lead will be responsible to leverage industry knowledge, existing internal Honda resources including SMEs, and other parallel business development initiatives to formulate a comprehensive business plan in the used car market. In order to develop a comprehensive business plan, the Senior Lead will need to thoroughly investigate current marketplace conditions, identify target customer(s) and pain points, calculate total addressable market size, determine alignment with greater Honda business goals, and quantify expected revenue and profit outcomes. This individual will need to carefully plan milestone activities including customer and stakeholder interviews as well as proof-of-concept initiatives in order to validate any hypothesis and/or KPI targets of the business plan. This individual must also have excellent communication skills (Ability to create well-organized PowerPoint presentations, detailed financial models, and oral presentation capabilities) in order gain buy-in from internal stakeholders and senior executives.

In order to be successful in this role, the Senior Lead should have deep first-hand knowledge of the automotive industry which will serve as a foundation for new business development. The candidate should also have experience developing business plans and creating consensus among cross functional stakeholders in large corporations. The candidate must possess a self-starter mentality and strong internal drive to independently move their project forward towards key milestones and KPIs. Strong organization and road mapping skills will be needed in order to ensure project timelines stay on track.

Key Accountabilities:



  • Business Planning:

    • Lead the development of a new business plan related to the lifecycle business of Honda vehicles.
    • Create a new business plan with supporting data that includes target customer, pain points, opportunities, market size, value proposition, business model, and revenue/profit forecasts.




  • Project Lead:

    • Lead the planning/execution of consumer research and planning/operation of proof-of-concepts as needed to validate business model.
    • Lead regular meetings with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project timelines and KPIs are on tract.




  • Communication:

    • Ensure that team members and management are regularly informed of project progress and any key issues that arise.
    • Clearly communicate any possible change in project direction based on new learnings or changes to market environment impacting project plans.
    • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the project area and clearly communicate market environment, project objectives, and expected outcomes within Honda.




  • Industry Knowledge:

    • Attend relevant conferences to keep abreast of industry trends and changing dynamics to market conditions.
    • Research, identify and connect with potential partners or vendors that can support project initiatives.





Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:



  • MBA from accredited university and/or program is strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating business plans including defining market opportunity, target customer, market sizing, value proposition, revenue and profit expectations.
  • Proven track record of business leadership roles to drive business success.
  • Minimum two of following experience:

    • 10+ years of business development
    • 10+ years of automotive planning or development
    • 10+ years of automotive customer facing solutions program management or development


  • Experience creating and introducing new business programs to market.
  • Experience in developing financial and business models including financial forecasts and setting revenue and profit targets
  • Experience leading and successfully executing proof-of-concepts and/or consumer research to meet timelines, budgets, and expected KPIs.
  • Strong leadership skills and self-starter mentality to drive business success.
  • Strong organizational skills to lay out project objectives, build timelines, and track progress.
  • Strong knowledge of the automotive industry including trends in business models around new product and service offerings.
  • Ability to think big picture and out of the box.
  • Strong proficiency with MS office is required, especially PowerPoint and excel.
  • Strong presenter and confident interacting with all levels of management.
  • Excellent teamwork skills to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Function as a business owner/product owner/LPL/or person-in-charge of business development project.



Working Conditions:



  • At least 60% physical presence at Honda corporate office in Torrance, CA.
  • 40% remote work.
  • Open to be in-office more than 60% as required based on business needs such as meetings with management.
  • Up to 10% travel to attend conferences, meet partners/vendors, visit other Honda offices globally.
