The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary |
The Interventional Radiology Nurse (
IRN) will provide overall support for services utilizing the interventional radiology (IR) suite to include equipment and inventory management, maintaining a clean/sterile environment, procedure scheduling/coordinating, patient preparation and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities may vary depending on the individual service/faculty needs. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Experience in a veterinary clinical setting and/or animal handling and husbandry.
- Knowledge of interventional radiology procedures and related techniques.
- Experience in human or veterinary surgical settings.
- Strong critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
- Compassionate and positive attitude with a team approach mindset.

Physical Demands |
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.
- Wearing all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
- Will wear unit specific protective equipment to avoid exposure to radioactive machinery.

- Assist during interventional radiology and other procedures utilizing the IR suite including but not limited to: procedure scheduling, entering requests, patient pre-op preparation, room set-up and break-down, technical assistance with equipment, and circulating nurse duties.
- Assist in the preparation of patients including but not limited to: client communication, screening for patient eligibility, facilitating patient admissions/hospitalization, collecting/submission of lab samples, surgical clip/prep, and medical record keeping.
- Work and communicate with operating room and endoscopy staff for utilization of shared resources to include medical equipment and staff as needed.
- Assist with patient discharge - educate clients on procedures, aftercare, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
