An opportunity for a VIE Structure Repair Engineer (m/f) - Workflow Manager - has arisen within the Fuselage Daily Repairs team at Airbus Commercial Aircraft in Wichita Engineering antenna (US, Kansas).

As the selected candidate, you will be based in Wichita - US, Kansas.

Your contract will be for a duration of 18 months.

Typically, passengers are waiting to take-off, and Airlines are losing money...

We are developing engineers' ability to establish and deliver, for all fleets, timely and consistent solutions to the technical daily queries raised by the customer support for Technical issues in operations.

You will join a team which provides the repair instructions (definition and justification) following damages reported by airlines (linked to events or during maintenance operations).

The Repair definition must be delivered within deadlines set by customer support in accordance with the airlines requirements, in order to guarantee the aircraft return to service in due time.

The portfolio of customer queries is clustered in three specific Aircraft structure areas aligned to the Airbus European work sharing, the fuselage being split from nose to tail between a French, a German and a Spanish Design Office responsibility with whom you will have to interact daily.

You will also be the interface between worldwide Airbus Customer support teams and Wichita Engineering team.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountability

As workflow manager you will be responsible for the distribution & follow-up of customer queries within your engineering centre.

This is a key role for the repair engineering teams in the frame of our 24/7 support involving Airbus European and Offshore centres and subcontractors around the world.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include for daily operations:

  • Assessing the customer daily queries with respect to data completeness, workload, complexity, queries that can be steered from global inflow or allocated by other teams.

  • Allocating them to the appropriate team members and suppliers, anticipating impacts on target dates in line with respective office hours of each.

  • Monitoring progress and ensuring On Time Delivery is met.

  • Defining priorities in cooperation with European Workflow Managers, Customer Services and Airworthiness Office departments under "watchtower" concept.

  • Supporting team capacity daily assessment, anticipating critical gaps and/or alerting line manager and partners.

On top you will also be in charge to support the Head of Fuselage Daily Repair with the following activities:

  • Agreeing activities in terms of volume and major milestones with relevant stakeholders (yearly plan) and steering the volume of queries to ensure commitment is met.

  • Securing the yearly resource planning matches the capacity need considering workload assumptions from Customer Services and general phases throughout the year, e.g. minimum workforce available for EoY break.

  • Identifying and leading improvement initiatives to the workflow process looking for transverse harmonization.

  • Measuring the key performance indicators such as OTD (On Time Delivery) and RFT (Right First Time = On quality Delivery), effort per unit to anticipate cost relevant effects, triggering relevant root cause assessments and corrective actions in case of deviation and/or anticipation of changes.

Required skills

As the successful candidate you are able to demonstrate the following skills and competences:

  • Holds a Mechanical Engineeringdegree

  • Understanding of Design and Stress Analysis

  • Knowledge in Aircraft structure

In addition you are showing the following abilities:

  • Ability to perform in a high pressure reactive environment and to quickly make decisions

  • Ability to interface with others and discuss technical matters clearly and simply

  • Ability to collaborate well within a team, to work independently when required

  • Customer mindset and solution oriented

  • Good communication and influencing skills

  • Negotiation level in English is mandatory

Nous developpons la capacite des ingenieurs a etablir et a fournir, pour toutes les flottes, des solutions rapides et coherentes aux questions techniques quotidiennes soulevees par le support client pour les problemes techniques en exploitation.

Vous rejoindrez une equipe qui fournit les instructions de reparation (definition et justification) suite aux dommages signales par les compagnies aeriennes (lies a des evenements ou lors d'operations de maintenance).

La definition de la reparation doit etre livree dans les delais fixes par le support client, conformement aux exigences des compagnies aeriennes, afin de garantir la remise en service de l'avion en temps voulu.

Le portefeuille des demandes des clients est regroupe dans trois zones specifiques de la structure de l'avion, alignees sur le partage du travail europeen d'Airbus, le fuselage etant reparti du nez a la queue entre les bureaux d'etudes francais, allemand et espagnol avec lesquels vous devrez interagir quotidiennement.

Vous serez egalement l'interface entre les equipes de support client d'Airbus dans le monde entier et l'equipe d'ingenierie de Wichita.

Ce poste necessitera une habilitation de securite ou devra etre eligible a une habilitation par les autorites reconnues.

Taches et responsabilites:

En tant que gestionnaire du flux de travail, vous serez responsable de la distribution et du suivi des demandes des clients au sein de votre centre d'ingenierie.

Il s'agit d'un role cle pour les equipes d'ingenierie de reparation dans le cadre de notre support 24/7 impliquant les centres europeens et offshore d'Airbus et les sous-traitants du monde entier.

Vos principales taches et responsabilites comprendront pour les operations quotidiennes :

  • L'evaluation des requetes quotidiennes des clients en ce qui concerne l'exhaustivite des donnees, la charge de travail, la complexite, les requetes qui peuvent etre dirigees a partir de l'afflux global ou attribuees par d'autres equipes.
  • Les attribuer aux membres de l'equipe et aux fournisseurs appropries, en anticipant les impacts sur les dates cibles en fonction des heures de bureau respectives de chacun.
  • Suivre les progres et s'assurer que les delais de livraison sont respectes.
  • Definir les priorites en cooperation avec les gestionnaires de flux de travail europeens, les services a la clientele et les departements du bureau de la navigabilite, selon le concept de " tour de controle ".
  • Soutenir l'evaluation quotidienne des capacites de l'equipe, anticiper les lacunes critiques et/ou alerter le superieur hierarchique et les partenaires.

En outre, vous serez egalement charge(e) de soutenir le responsable de la reparation quotidienne des fuselages dans les activites suivantes :

  • Convenir des activites en termes de volume et d'etapes importantes avec les parties prenantes concernees (plan annuel) et gerer le volume des demandes pour garantir le respect des engagements.
  • S'assurer que la planification annuelle des ressources correspond au besoin de capacite en tenant compte des hypotheses de charge de travail du service clientele et des phases generales tout au long de l'annee, par exemple, la main-d'uvre minimale disponible pour la pause EoY.
  • Identifier et mener des initiatives d'amelioration du processus de flux de travail en recherchant une harmonisation transversale.
  • Mesurer les indicateurs de performance cles tels que OTD (On Time Delivery) et RFT (Right First Time = On quality Delivery), l'effort par unite pour anticiper les effets sur les couts, declencher les evaluations des causes profondes et les actions correctives en cas de deviation et/ou d'anticipation des changements.

Competences requises:

En tant que candidat(e) retenu(e), vous etes en mesure de demontrer les aptitudes et competences suivantes :

  • Titulaire d'un diplome d'ingenieur en mecanique
  • Comprehension de la conception et de l'analyse des contraintes
  • Connaissance de la structure des aeronefs
