Job Summary

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education and has grown to encompass a network of specialty clinics, multiple research and clinical trials, an HIV education program, an international research program in East Africa and a vibrant community forum for clinicians and researchers. Housed within the Division is the LIINC (Long-term Impact of Infection with the Novel Coronavirus) and RECOVER (Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery) Research Programs that focuses on clinical and translational research.

The Research Data Analyst 3 will primarily contribute to data acquisition, management, and related programming. This position has the responsibility for the overall development, management, control, coordination, storage, retrieval and execution of data acquisition systems. Oversees data management issues and problems for a wide range of systems and applications. Issues include data interface and storage, and require application of data management principles, procedures, and tools, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data disposal, and data standardization processes. Directs internal and external process or system reviews, studies, projects, and data validation efforts, which provide a mean for evaluating system performance and vulnerabilities. Accesses, merges, cleans, standardizes, and develops derived metrics on multiple structured datasets; has familiarity with appropriate software and automation tools. Also an opportunity to perform observational data analyses using regression modeling tools. Supports work of other analysts (e.g., reviewing and checking data), as directed by supervisor.

This role is a 1 year contract position from the date of hire.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $84,400 - $120,100 (Annual Rate).

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education. With its home-base located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care since 1983. The Division's work is featured frequently in the media, and it is often visited by numerous international, national, state, and local dignitaries and delegations. The Division consists of approximately 38 faculty members, 16 fellows/postdoctoral scholars and 170 academic and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $52 million dollars.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience
  • At least 2 years of work experience in related field
  • Thorough skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design/managemet and data security measures including but not limited to STATA, SAS, and R.
  • Thorough knowledge of research function.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work discreetly with sensitive and confidential data
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
  • Strong skills in project management.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Thorough skills in analysis and consultation.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience (e.g. content knowledge) with the nuances of infectious disease datasets, in particular HIV datasets and phenotypes, and Long Covid datasets and phenotypes
