Summary: The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment. We are a multidisciplinary team of about 6 nurses and 6 exercise specialists. We also have Certified Clinical Exercise Specialists on staff, and a dietician and referral specialist. We provide phase 1 cardiac rehab, phase 2 cardiac rehab and maintenance phase 3 cardiac rehab. Our program consists of supervised exercise programming and education on lifestyle change and behavior change for risk factor management and healthy lifestyle. Cardiac Rehab is an important part of secondary prevention after a qualifying heart event, and supports MaineHealth's cardiovascular service line. Intern projects will include: providing support with gym sessions, learning how to create individual exercise prescriptions for the cardiovascular population, creating motivational challenges for patients in the gym setting. Educational opportunities on cardiovascular risk factor management, etc. practicing clinical skills like blood pressures, blood glucose monitoring, etc. Preference will be given to students pursuing Exercise Physiology, Applied Exercise Science, Nursing, Nutrition or related areas.
