Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Fiber Splicing Supervisor oversees and coordinates all activities related to the installation, splicing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks. This role requires leadership skills, technical expertise, and a thorough understanding of the network and fiber optics to ensure high-quality and efficient work in the field. The supervisor will be responsible for managing a team of fiber optic technicians, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and maintaining project timelines.
- Supervision and Leadership: Lead, train, and mentor a team of fiber optic technicians and splicing specialists. Ensure team members adhere to best practices and safety protocols.
- Fiber Splicing: Perform fiber optic splicing, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers, and ensure proper termination and testing of splices.
- Project Management: Oversee the execution of fiber optic installations and maintenance projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Quality Control: Inspect and test fiber splices and installations to ensure they meet industry standards and customer specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to fiber optic connections.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all splicing work, including fiber count, splice locations, and any issues encountered during installations. Report project status and progress to senior management.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all work complies with OSHA safety regulations and internal safety guidelines. Promote a culture of safety within the team.
- Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of fiber splicing and testing equipment to ensure its proper functioning.
- Customer Interaction: Occasionally interact with clients to discuss project progress, resolve issues, and address any concerns related to fiber optic systems.

- Participate in job site safety/hazard analysis
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required). Associate's degree or certifications in telecommunications or fiber optics is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fiber optic splicing, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems, including installation, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with fiber splicing tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with fiber optic testing equipment (OTDR, power meters, light sources).
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead a team, manage multiple projects, and work effectively under pressure.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, management, and clients.
- Certifications: Fiber optic certifications such as FOA (Fiber Optic Association) or BICSI are preferred but not required.
