About the Role

This position is for a highly experienced and visionary Director of Firmware Engineering for Harman Pro to lead and inspire a global team of 20+ firmware engineers across multiple locations (Richardson, TX and Shenzhen, China). This critical leadership role demands a proven track record of success in managing and developing high-performing firmware engineering teams within a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. The position requires 15+years of progressive development and management experience. This position will be responsible for the overall firmware development strategy and execution for Harman Pro's Audio, Video, and Control product lines. This includes overseeing all aspects of the firmware development lifecycle, from initial concept to final product release, while ensuring the highest levels of quality, performance, and innovation. Duties include defining and executing the long-term firmware development roadmap for Audio, Video, and Control products, firmware project oversight including estimation, scheduling and tracking, resource allocation and management, 3rd party partner collaboration and coordination with other Harman stakeholders including Product and Project Management. Individual development contributions are also expected with this role as an active member/lead on a project team. This position is a hiring manager with oversight of team goal setting, performance evaluation in alignment with organizational objectives.

Your Team

This position reports to the Executive Director of Video and Control Harman Professional Solutions. The position has 3 direct reporting managers comprising a team of more than 20 engineers.

What You Will Do

  • Define and execute the long-term firmware development roadmap for Harman Pro's product lines.
  • Drive innovation and technology adoption within the firmware engineering team.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team to support strategic objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global firmware engineering team.
  • Set and track ambitious team goals aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of firmware development best practices and industry trends.
  • Manage a global matrixed team of engineers including performance evaluation, resource allocation and staff hiring evaluations.
  • Collaborate with product and project managers to align resource allocation with business objectives.
  • Lead design and architecture decisions marshalling collaboration as required for product responsibilities.
  • Design and develop robust and reliable C/C++ firmware for audio, video and control embedded products.
  • Manage assigned tasks and schedules for both self and team, keeping management apprised of status.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality firmware solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Collaborate effectively with 3rd party vendors and partners.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of current and emerging firmware technologies and industry best practices.

What You Need

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 15+ years of C/C++ or Java programming on embedded platforms and products
  • 10+ years of experience leading engineering team(s) as project technical lead or manager.
  • Experience in a wide range of embedded product development from small microprocessors to larger Linux based product development.
  • Quickly assess situations, identify root causes, and determine required resources to effectively resolve.
  • Experience in task break-down, estimation and resource scheduling.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams in a global environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in embedded systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and relevant firmware development technologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical associates.
  • Ability to oversee, status and guide multiple simultaneous development teams.
  • Ability to lead a development team and drive to on-time product release.
  • Ability and desire to both manage and motivate a team and contribute as an individual to achieve product development goals.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Willingness to work in our office in Richardson, TX.
  • Willingness for occasional travel, including international travel to China.

Pay Transparency
$ 161,250 - $ 236,500
Dependent on the position offered, other forms of compensation are also available, such as bonuses or commission.

Pay is based on a wide range of factors, including, without limitation, skill set, experience, training, location, and business need. While the above range is a reasonable estimate of the wage range for this position, please note the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographical differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.
