Position Description


Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
Primary areas of responsibility include active participation in both predoctoral and graduate teaching, research, and patient care at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1.General

2.Teaching

  • Promote maximal learning among all students, oneself, and one's colleagues.
  • Be current in one's discipline.
  • Provide feedback and evaluation in ways that preserve dignity, promote learning, develop consistency, and allow others to make valid decisions.
  • Use all methods and modalities of teaching and assessment appropriate to one's teaching assignments.
  • Be accessible to students and colleagues.

3.Service

  • Perform activities for the common good of the School of Dentistry, the university, one's professional groups, and the community.
  • Bring distinction to the School of Dentistry by one's actions.
  • Exercise and model leadership through helping others work cooperatively for shared goals

4.Patient Care and Management of Patient Care

  • Promote patient oral health and satisfaction with care in our clinics.
  • Make referrals as appropriate, but not for one's own benefit.
  • Enhance patients' respect for students and the school.
  • Participate in quality assurance and other programs designed to improve the overall effectiveness of the school's clinics.
  • Strive for mastery as a practicing professional.

Specific Responsibilities: Primary areas of responsibility include active participation in both predoctoral and graduate teaching, research, and patient care components of the program.

Position Description:
1. Predoctoral program
a. Didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical teaching to dental students (lecture, block rotation, elective course).
b. Supervise students providing clinical care of patients in the Dugoni School clinic.
c. Provide academic advisement and guidance to dental students.
d. Participate in Personalized Instructional Programs and student research projects.
2. Graduate program
a. Didactic and clinical teaching to post-graduate residents.
b. Supervise or participate in resident research projects.
c. Development of scholarly activities for the residents.
d. Supervise residents providing clinical care of patients in the Dugoni School clinic.
3. Service to the dental school and professional community through participation in committees, interprofessional programs, school-wide activities, and local & regional professional organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
Licenses:

  • Qualified candidates must possess a DMD/DDS from an ADA-accredited school of dentistry and a certificate from an Advanced Education Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Current advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) certification.
  • Licensed or licensure eligible in California.


Working Conditions:
  • Position requires coordination of a variety of responsible duties in stressful non-clinical and clinical situations.
Preferred Qualifications
License:

  • Board certification is highly desired.


Experience:
  • Previous experience in an academic setting preferred.
Other:

  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements:

  • Work performed is primarily general office/administrative/direct patient care with frequent use of computer keyboard and phone
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking,
  • Occasional lifting of up to 15lbs should be anticipated.

Hiring Range $50 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
