Position Summary
The Muscle Integrative Biology ( MIB) laboratory in the Department of Exercise Physiology at Winston Salem State University ( WSSU) seeks a postdoctoral fellow to pursue his/her passion for basic and applied science in the context of an NSF-funded project focused on mechanisms of sterile inflammation in injured skeletal muscle cells. The project is titled "Excellence in Research: Mitochondrial Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns (mtDAMPs) as Immunostimulants."

PhD required. Candidates must possess a PhD in the biological sciences. Candidates with background in biology, cellular biology, molecular biology, immunology, exercise physiology, physiology, STEM education, and related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Pursuit of collaborations inside and outside WSSU is encouraged, as is development of novel interdisciplinary side projects. The postdoctoral fellow will be assisted with preparing grant proposals, manuscripts, and presentations. The postdoctoral fellow will be at liberty to specialize, in order to develop as a future researcher or educator, in academia or in industry. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to engage with students, primarily undergraduates, from diverse backgrounds. She/he may have the opportunity to deliver class lectures.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to work both independently and with teams in a multidisciplinary environment. The postdoctoral fellow will have multiple opportunities for professional development, including the opportunity to use techniques such as digital PCR, fluorescence microscopy, cell culture, and x-ray crystallography. Familiarity with techniques such as these is a plus. Participation in occasional STEM outreach activities will be encouraged.
