This position reports to the Director of Policy and External Affairs. The Policy Manager will lead a team responsible for providing federal, state and local Policy and manage Oxy's Advocate and Ambassador program leads as well as support and contribute to the overall external engagement strategy for Occidental's (OXY) operations. Position is located in Denver, CO or Houston, TX.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day responsibilities and overall career development of a team of Policy & External Affairs professionals
  • Develop and cultivate relationships and act as a liaison for the company with regulators, eNGOs, industry partners, trades and key stakeholders
  • Maintain a broad understanding of businesses to manage and advocate for policy issues
  • Monitor, review and engage, as appropriate, on proposed policies and regulations; assess potential impact and advocate for business positions
  • Serve as liaison with policy team and government affairs team on legislative matters and engagement
  • Develop and execute policy strategies to reduce regulatory risk and achieve business interest at local, state and federal level
  • Represent OXY at trade association and industry groups, including taking leadership positions on committees, task forces and other issue specific workgroups
  • Present of behalf of Oxy to a variety of audiences

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in Law, Science, Engineering, Political Science, Business or other related field preferred.
  • 10+ years in chemicals, oil and gas or other extractive industry, renewables or utilities
  • Ability to manage individual contributors and supervisors
  • Ability to plan, direct and monitor operational and tactical activities for staff
  • Must be action oriented and always driving for results
  • Have worked with State, Local and Federal Regulatory Agencies
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Travel 30%
The salary range for this position is:$ 120,000 - $ 165,000 Annual

*Candidates having qualifications that exceed the minimum job requirements may receive consideration for higher-level role given (1) their experience, (2) additional job requirements, and/or (3) business needs.
