Overview
The Vermont Department of Health is looking for an organized, conscientious, and detail-oriented team player to join the bustling Vital Records Office. This in-office position in Waterbury involves technical and specialized work such as establishing and maintaining accounts for users of the Department's birth, death and issuance management systems and maintaining user contact information, responding to inquiries from the public, town clerks, funeral directors and hospital staff via phone, email and letters, learning and maintaining a vast understanding of Vital Records' business processes to monitor and improve operations within the office, and assisting with other Vital Records' responsibilities by processing online and paper applications for certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates, processing court ordered amendments to birth, death and marriage certificates, and following up with providers for missing information and data entry of vital events into varying software applications. The ideal applicant has excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and is committed to maintaining accurate and complete records. This position is full-time and based in the Waterbury State Office Complex, Monday through Friday. Who May Apply
This position, Public Health Specialist I (Job Requisition #51985), is open to all State employees and external applicants. AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights. Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in both a standard office and field settings. Private means of transportation must be available for required travel. Stress may be anticipated in dealing with emotional situations involving application of programs, especially in dealing with families and in the allocation of program resources. Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years or more of experience in public health, human services, emergency response, community engagement, program administration, human services related fields or health-related fields. OR Associate degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, social sciences related fields or health-related fields and one (1) year or more of experience in public health, human services, emergency response, community engagement, program administration, human services related fields or health-related fields. OR Bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, social sciences related fields or health-related fields. Preferred Qualifications
Experienced user of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Total Compensation
