The Department of Psychiatry and the Institute for Juvenile Research at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking a licensed Child and Adolescent psychiatrist for a clinician-educator position. Academic rank commensurate with experience. This is a clinician educator position with outpatient and inpatient duties and will include supervision of residents and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows. The candidate must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and have completed both an ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) or AOA (American Osteopathic Association) accredited residency in psychiatry and an accredited fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. The candidate must possess or be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois and an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license and must be Board-certified or Board-eligible in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. This position requires some overnight (phone) and weekend on-call duties. Experience and interest in teaching and supervising medical students, residents and child psychiatry fellows is also necessary.

We are one of the largest Psychiatry departments in the Midwest, with a large General Psychiatry Residency Training Program and several subspecialty fellowships, including Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addictions, Neuropsychiatry and Women's Mental Health. The Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) is housed within the department and is regarded as the home of American child psychiatry. IJR dates back to 1909 and was founded by Jane Addams to advance the care of youth in Chicago. Its historic mission continues to the present day and is expanding under the leadership of Dr. Niranjan Karnik.

Our clinical services focus on diverse and vulnerable patients, serving predominantly minority and economically underserved populations on the South and West Sides of Chicago. Our inpatient child psychiatry unit serves youth in the care of Illinois DCFS. We are also a nationally known basic and clinical research enterprise, ranked first in Chicago and in the top 25 nationally by NIH funding, with foci in mood and anxiety disorders, women's mental health, late life depression, addictions, youth trauma, and mental health services, with multiple opportunities for collaboration and translation of research towards serving our clinical populations.
