Job Purpose

Materials Group is responsible for detailed analysis of material properties and determining root causes of failure.

Key Accountabilities

* Materials analysis and consulting for Honda internal groups

o Develop test plans and schedules to support material-related analysis for new model, mass production, and warranty related problems.

o Develop knowledge of relevant part, equipment, and material drawings and specifications.

o Complete material analysis according to plan/schedule utilizing a variety of analytical, physical, and environmental testing equipment (SEM, EDS, FT-IR, microscopes, DSC, TGA, OES, tensile/compression, etc.).

o Build technical knowledge of specific material properties, defects, and causes of defects for plastics, elastomers, metals, paint, electronics, glass, fluids, etc.

o Draw effective conclusions based on the results of testing and analysis.

o Generate concise technical reports summarizing test results.

* Full body corrosion testing for North American factory new models

o Lead testing schedule and related equipment.

o Evaluate test units for corrosion, commercial quality, and functional problems.

o Manage test problems from problem identification through root cause analysis and countermeasure.

o Generate reports summarizing test results and present findings to relevant stakeholders.

* Maintain laboratory equipment

o Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.

o Ensure adequate supply of spare parts and consumable supplies for continuous equipment operation.

o Ensure equipment calibration.

o Update equipment procedures.

* Maintain an organized work environment

* Support group business themes including budget target achievement, capital investments for laboratory equipment, and other improvement items.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree (Material Science Eng., Chemical Eng., Corrosion Eng., Plastics Eng.) with experience or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience

0-6 years of experience based on education, no degree requires 6 years of relevant experience

Other Job-Specific Skills

Analytical testing, technical writing, manufacturing quality/materials, automotive technician skills all desired but not required

Job Dimensions

Financial Dimensions

Participate in team activity to identify, budget, & submit requisitions for equipment and/or materials needed for analysis and validation of test vehicles, maintenance of equipment, material analysis, and other group functions. Specific responsibility for test units or equipment for which the associate is assigned PIC.

Decisions Expected

Determine material-related root causes for problems with various automotive parts and manufacturing equipment.

Evaluate problems on test units, collaboratively identify root cause, and track countermeasure implementation.

Lead capital investment projects for laboratory equipment.

Working Conditions

This role is primarily on site at the Marysville Auto Plant with some limited flexibility for remote work.

Work environment is primarily within a technical laboratory and office and also in shop and production environments as needed.

Periodic travel between other Ohio Honda facilities is required.

Occasional other domestic/international travel (typically less than 1x/year).

Occasional lifting of up to 20kg required.

Expected 5 hours overtime per week as needed.
