The Volunteer & Training Coordinator is responsible for the Parks and Recreation Department's volunteer program and employee internal training and development program. This is achieved by recruiting, developing, training, and coordinating volunteers; coordinating training and development opportunities for departmental staff, assisting with short and long term opportunities to include parks and recreation facilities and programs, special events, department's internship program, department based community service projects and engagement, organizational initiatives and assigned projects. Work requires the direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or volunteers.

- Manages all parks & recreation volunteer program activities by maintaining a computerized management system, tracking volunteer hours and data; preparing volunteer related promotional materials and actively engaging in community meetings to educate and recruit volunteers.
- Coordinates training and development programs for the Parks and Recreation Department by administering the departmental Guest Experience, team achievement programs, employee skill set training, policy and compliance training and other developmental programs.
- Identifies and coordinates volunteer needs of the Parks & Recreation Department and assesses and plans for volunteer needs.
- Gathers information about each volunteer's skills, availability, and goals; matches volunteers with appropriate opportunities based on this data.
- Works in collaboration to coordinate, schedule and assign volunteers to appropriate divisions, supervisors, and/or mentors.
- Regularly communicates with volunteers to ensure placement is a good fit for individual's skills and goals.
- Maintains files, records, applications, and other data concerning volunteer program and resources.
- Ensures retention rates meet departmental performance measures and goals.
- Engages regularly with community partners/stakeholders and public at large to educate and recruit volunteer resources for department.
- Works in collaboration with Human Resources Department to develop and maintain volunteer screening processes.
- Drafts, maintains, and publishes guidelines, best practices, and standard procedures/processes for volunteer program.
- Coordinates volunteer recognition and appreciation events and activities.
- Identifies, organizes, coordinates and as necessary facilitates internal development and training for internal employees.
- Collaborates with departmental staff on needs, 'train the trainer' concept, and team inclusion.
- Consults with external consultants and training providers as necessary.
- Facilitates training environment by reserving and setting up space with needed audiovisual equipment etc., scheduling of attendees, creating and distribution of training materials, and other related tasks.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of relevant work experience;
Experience as a volunteer coordinator, trainer, or similar position preferred.

Work Schedule
Varied and may include days, evenings, weekend and holidays as applicable to department functions and needs.
Certification and Other Requirements
- Valid Class C Drivers License.
- CPRO and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of employment

Supplemental Information

Reading
Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Math
Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Writing
Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
