Job Purpose

  • New business opportunities often arise from a careful observation of customer needs and wants. The new business research analyst has a keen perception of technological trends, societal circumstances, regulations, and other factors and can envision from these, unique business opportunities that solve the customer's concerns. Through sensing, combined with engineering and design he has the creative ability to spot these opportunities early, study and weigh the relevant factors, and determine reasonable business prospects such that Honda can develop them into successful products.

Key Accountabilities

  • Sensing:Continuously study developments in and outside the automotive industry to understand latest incoming trends in products and technology. Understand the problems such products and technologies seek to solve. Understand feedback from consumers, their specific needs and wants, and areas where existing technologies fall short of meeting their expectations.
  • Ideation:Envision new business opportunities arising from sensing research, analysis, and comprehensive study of relevant factors. Envision possibilities by "connecting-the-dots," and carefully consider "what-if" scenarios generated from this type of thinking. Weigh the risks and balance against potential benefits to company and customer alike. Package the idea and make a proposal.
  • Reporting:Gain consensus within the research team and stakeholders on conclusions to be drawn from the sensing research and ideation process. Prepare a report summarizing findings and recommendation on path forward including targets, timelines, and specific actions to take.
  • Consulting, External: In certain cases, it may be necessary to engage an expert third party to bring a different perspective to a subject under study. In such a case, collaborate with a designated partner for in-depth study to identify and quantify areas of opportunity. Supervise the vendor's work regularly through meetings while giving appropriate feedback.
  • Consulting, Internal:Share information cross-functionally with groups having vested interests in the analysis being conducted (ie. Design, Purchasing, AH Strategy, Supplier). Adjust research to address input from these business units.
  • Special Projects: Lead short term business innovation projects as assigned

Workstyle

  • Hybrid: At least 4 days per workweek at the aforementioned Honda office, in Ohio.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum educational qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.

Minimum professional experience: 10 or more years of relevant experience.
