Columbia University in the City of New York: Arts and Sciences Core - Academic: Department of Physics Location 01 Open Date Sep 18, 2024 Salary Range or Pay Grade $71,050 - $80,000 Description Columbia Physics Department invites applications for the 2024 EKA Postdoctoral program for outstanding young scientists with research interests in any area of physics pursued at Columbia. The positions are co-sponsored by the Ernest Kempton Adams fund and Columbia faculty members and come with travel and research funds. The appointment is for an initial term of one year, renewable for up to two additional years by mutual agreement and subject to the availability of funding. We anticipate making two offers in 2024: one in theoretical/computational physics and another in experimental physics. It is expected that additional positions will be available in the Fall of 2025. We will give preference to candidates who have obtained their degree in 2024, but are open to all candidates who received their PhD as early as 2022. The Columbia Physics Department is home to 35 faculty members, 110 graduate students and approximately 60 postdoctoral fellows pursuing active experimental and theoretical research across many subfields of modern physics. EKA funds originate from a gift made in memory of Ernest Kepton Adams by his family. Recipients of the EKA funded post-doctoral position will be joining a distinguished tradition of EKA supported visits and research. EKA-supported visitors to Columbia include Max Planck, Hendrik Lorentz and, more recently, Michael Berry and Immanuel Bloch. Enrico Fermi's Physical Review article reporting the observation, made at Columbia, of fission acknowledges support from EKA funds. Qualifications PhD in Physics. Application Instructions Applicants will be asked to input a name and valid email address for two references providers. The application system will send an automatic email to the reference providers, politely requesting a letter of reference and offering a secure link where a letter can be uploaded quickly and easily. Applications received by October 31, 2024 will receive full consideration. All application materials must be received via the Columbia Academic Search and Recruiting Site (ASR). APPLICATION MATERIALS must include: --CV, including list of publications --One-page description of proposed research, which must include names of potential Columbia faculty research sponsors --Two confidential letters of recommendation For further questions on this application process, please contact Ashley Delphia, Director of Academic Administration, at Ashley.Delphia@columbia.edu. |
