Summary of Job Duties:This is a 100% remote work position.
The Clinical Interpreter, provides a comprehensive range of interpreting and translation services to spanish-speaking patients, families and the organization including interpreting via phone and video, and translation of patient education material. Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree OR Associate's Degree plus 2 years of interpreting experience or High School Diploma plus 4 years of interpreting experience.
  • Obtain a Competence in Language Interpreting certificate OR have an equivalent or higher medical interpreter certification within first 90 days.
  • Complete at least 40 hours of medical interpreter training OR have an equivalent or higher medical interpreting education within first 90 days.
  • National Interpreter Certification within 2 years ofemployment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to work independently and perform job duties efficiently. Ability to communicate the patient's needs to appropriate clinic and department staff.
  • Interacts with internal and external obstetrical care providers, clinic and call center staff, and other department personnel and facilitates appropriate courses of action in a service-minded fashion.
  • Experience interpreting and translating in a medical setting.
  • Experience in interactive video interpreting.
  • Knowledge of interactive video equipment.
  • Call center/customer service experience

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Provides interpreting for the patient & family and medical healthcare team in specified language. Provides culturally/linguistically appropriate written translation of patient education materials and other written documents.
  • Identifies barriers or concerns which interfere with the interpreting process and suggests alternative for resolution.
  • Educates staff about TIS compliance, best practices and cultural competence.
  • Completes Interpreting Logs for data collection.
  • Participates in relevant committees and organizations as assigned.
  • Interpreter will place calls to specified language patients to schedule appointments and process clinic registration prior to the patient's clinic visit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
