The Impact You'll Make

The Metrology Engineer II will be pivotal in sustaining and R&D activities within our metrology department, with an emphasis of 60% on sustaining activities and 40% on R&D. Initially working closely with other engineers and technicians in a cleanroom environment, this individual is expected to evolve into a subject matter expert in ellipsometry, X-Ray Reflectivity (XRR), and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). In the future, this role will also encompass tool ownership responsibilities.

What You'll Do
  • Hands-On Metrology Operations:Conduct hands-on work within the cleanroom, utilizing a range of advanced metrology tools such as optical and x-ray thin film measurement systems (ellipsometry, XRF, XRR), FIB-SEM, 3D tomography, AFM, CDSEM, FTIR, among others. Collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure optimal tool operation.
  • Tool Ownership Responsibilities:Assume ownership of designated tools, ensuring they are in specification through rigorous application of SPC methods. Maintain oversight of preventative maintenance schedules to ensure consistent tool performance and availability. Provide first-level troubleshooting when issues arise.
  • Data Analysis and Troubleshooting:Generate, interpret, and analyze complex data sets. Modify and develop recipes to enhance tool performance and address technical challenges.
  • Vendor Management and Maintenance:Interface effectively with vendor field service engineers to troubleshoot issues, manage maintenance schedules, and maximize tool uptime. Foster strong vendor relationships to support operational needs.
  • Research and Development:Engage in R&D initiatives, contributing to innovation in metrology processes and solutions. Develop and test cutting-edge techniques to enhance metrology capabilities.
  • Subject Matter Expertise:Build comprehensive knowledge in ellipsometry, XRR, and XRF, with a focus on modeling and recipe development. Share expertise and provide technical support to the team.
  • Collaboration and Interface:Work closely with a variety of process technologists to align metrology solutions with their requirements. Engage in strategic discussions to optimize lab capabilities.
  • Capability Enhancement:Identify and implement improvements to lab processes and workflows to enhance overall performance and productivity.
Who We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master's or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Experience working in cleanroom environments and operations.
  • Proven ability to manage and operate a variety of advanced metrology tools.
  • Strong analytical abilities and proficiency with statistical process control (SPC).
  • Competence in managing vendor relationships and coordinating maintenance activities.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and detail oriented.
  • Effective communicator with strong collaborative skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with ellipsometry, XRR, and XRF.
  • Demonstrated capability in tool ownership and recipe writing.
  • Familiarity with research and development practices in metrology.
  • Data analytics and machine learning skills using Python and other tools are preferred.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $70,000.00 -$155,000.00.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
