Description

The Discovery Technician performs case review of felony or misdemeanor filings to ensure all discovery is received from submitting law enforcement agency. Works with and manages various forms of confidential information governed by state and federal law.


Duties

  • Reviews and examines digital case files for discovery purposes
  • Works closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the timely receipt of all discovery
  • Procures necessary media and/or reports, monitors appropriate discovery deadlines to ensure timely completion of affected case.
  • Collaborates with attorneys, law enforcement personnel, paralegals and legal assistants on discovery matters
  • Logs requests, copies /scans and reviews and organizes discovery files to ensure that files are complete.
  • Utilizes resources to research, investigate, and contact necessary parties to identify discovery requiring additional follow-up

  • Ability to learn standard legal/court procedures and legal terminology and forms applicable to the assignment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize aspects of work to comply with statutorily mandated deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively locate documents and prepare discovery.
  • Ability to follow semi-complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, e.g. personal computer, fax, copier, scanner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, fellow workers, attorneys, court officials, other police and related agencies' personnel; ability to communicate effectively with same.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduation or GED equivalent.
  • 1+ year of general office experience
  • 1+ year of experience working in legal, or law enforcement setting preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Supplemental Information

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which may include an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
  • Security clearance required: will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.
  • Spends 90% of the time sitting and 10% of the time either upright or walking.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions.
  • Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment.
  • Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work-related equipment.

Definitions:
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
