The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position at the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research. funded by an NSF project to establish a distributed network of meteor radars and optical instruments in South America. This network will provide high-resolution measurements of neutral atmospheric perturbations in the mesosphere and thermosphere to advance understandings on small-scale wave interactions and coupling processes.

Position Responsibilities

The postdoc will play a critical role in implementing and advancing the scientific goals of this project, including:

  • Contributing to the deployment, operation, and optimization of meteor radar and optical instrument networks.
  • Processing and analyzing instrument data for calibration, validation, and scientific investigation.
  • Collaborating with a multi-institution team to integrate and interpret results, leading to high-impact publications.
  • Assisting in the development and management of the project's data-sharing infrastructure.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in space physics, engineering, or a related field by the start of the appointment.
  • Strong experience with radar and/or optical remote sensing instruments, data processing, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming and data visualization tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.

Desired Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with the deployment, calibration, and maintenance of ground-based instruments in remote sites.
  • Knowledge of the mesospheric and thermospheric dynamics processes, or related atmospheric phenomena.
  • Demonstrated success in publishing peer-reviewed research and presenting at conferences.
  • Background in large-scale data infrastructure and real-time data sharing frameworks.

Position Details:

  • Location: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's main campus in Daytona Beach, Florida. Frequent travel to South America is required.
  • Appointment duration: One year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.
  • Start date: Flexible, but the position will begin as soon as possible.
  • Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, following NSF and institutional guidelines.
