Southwest Virginia Community College (
SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia,
SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university.
SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking a candidate to fill the role of Administrative Assistant for the Program Director of the
APEX Accelerator Program, formerly known as the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (
PTAC). This part time position will work 24 hours per week.
Job duties will include:
- Supporting the mission and goals of the APEX Accelerator Program and Southwest as well as those of the VCCS, DoD and APEX Accelerator network;
- Working directly with small businesses within the southwest Virginia region including the counties of Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe;
- Assisting the Program Director with marketing of program, reporting, event planning, maintaining program calendar, handling and preparing social media announcements and updates; and other duties as requested/assigned;
- Procuring office supplies/services as needed;
- Preparing travel arrangements;
- Assisting with preparation of business-related workshops for private individuals, businesses and the industry community;
- Networking with individuals, civic organizations and government entities to help in identifying sources of information and/or services related to small businesses;
- Answering telephones and coordinating appointments, assisting prospective/current clients with inquiries and information;
- Must exhibits polite and professional communication via phone, e-mail, and mail;
- Assisting with research and gathering of information as requested;
- Special Assignments as necessary;
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned;
- May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications |
- Prior office management and clerical experience
- Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficient usage of Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel, and various other programs (i.e. VCCS Systems)
- Ability to multi-task
- Must have strong written and verbal skills
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals to support the mission of the program and College
