Scope of Work: The Grounds Lead serves as a lead worker for assigned Grounds Laborers in addition to performing various labor tasks to maintain the grounds of industrial, commercial, and NAS Jacksonville property. Responsibilities:
- Leads and oversees an assigned shift of Grounds Laborers.
- Provides clear instructions and guidance to the Grounds Laborer team.
- Ensures laborers and equipment are prepared and ready for tasks.
- Acts as a liaison between Grounds Laborers and Supervisors.
- Operates mowers (riding or hand), hedge trimmers, weed eaters, and edging tools to maintain grass, hedges, and walkways.
- Handles tasks such as pulling weeds, raking, shoveling, mulching, and general landscape maintenance.
- Rakes, bags, and removes leaves and natural debris.
- Secures equipment and cargo on stake bed trucks and flatbed trailers.
- Operates hand sweepers to clean roads, parking areas, and other surfaces.
- Uses small equipment such as ATVs, Kubota's, and tractors when needed.
- Employs hand and arm signals to direct other operators safely.
- Utilizes weed eaters for cutting grass or weeds in challenging areas, such as ditches, mounds, and berms with steep inclines.
- Frequently lifts and carries lawn equipment (e.g., weed eaters and edgers) for extended periods.
- Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Completes required training within designated timelines.
- Ensures all tasks are performed safely and securely.
- Consistently delivers high-quality work and services.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support operations.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience and/or training providing the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the tasks of the position.
- Some specialized experience preferred and/or formal vocational/technical training.
- Experience in operating small trucks and grounds equipment.
- Possess and demonstrate a courteous and positive attitude toward customers.
- Ability to follow policies, procedures, and operating instructions.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasks.
- Ability to follow basic operation instructions.
- Reliable transportation to the worksite is required.
- Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Duties will require frequent periods of bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level, and kneeling. Occasionally require periods of crawling and climbing.
- Must maintain licenses and/or credentials required for this position.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
- Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
- Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
- Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.). Outside work in winter, summer, rain, sleet, and snow and on uneven terrain - side hills and slopes.
- Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to perform on-call duties when necessary and report to work within the required timeframe from notification.
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
- Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
- Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
