Commercial Construction Project Officer

Position Summary:

The Commercial Construction Project Officer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of commercial construction loan projects for the credit union, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversees construction project planning by reviewing detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, to ensure the successful completion of construction projects.

Reviews and manages budget by overseeing the project budget, tracking expenses, and managing financial reporting to ensure projects are completed within financial constraints.

Ensures contractors, subcontractors, and vendors meet the credit union's standards for quality and compliance. Develops and maintains relationships with builders and contractors.

Supervises on-site construction activities through third party resources, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, building codes, and project specifications.

Serves as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders, including loan officers, credit union executives, and board members, to keep them informed on project statuses and address any concerns.

Monitors project schedules, ensuring milestones are met and adjustments are made to stay on track. Identifies and addresses any issues or delays that arise during construction, working collaboratively with contractors and stakeholders to find solutions.

Coordinates final inspections, ensuring that the project meets all credit union approval requirements before the loan is converted to permanent financing.

Implements quality control measures to ensure that all work meets the required standards and specifications, including inspections and audits.

Ensures that all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as credit union policies and standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred.

Licensure:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or other construction management-related credentials preferred.

Experience:

  • Five to seven years of experience in construction project management and lending.
  • Strong understanding of construction loan processes, loan risk management, and expertise in both commercial and construction loan products.
  • Previous demonstrated track record of driving results, managing complex projects, and delivering strategic initiatives within a financial institution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge in commercial construction lending, project management, regulatory rules, accounting principles, and loan processing/closing.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities and manage complex projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant computer software including advanced skill with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
